"Laser Hair Removal"

How Does Laser Hair removal work?

When the light beam, with a certain wavelength and intensity interacts with the hair, the light energy is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) which then transforms into heat. This is what is known as selective photothermolysis, producing the destruction of the hair bulb without affecting the tissues. Since the laser only acts on dark areas caused by melanin, it is not effective for white or very light hair. However, there are models of diode, yag and elight that thanks to new technologies additional frequencies are incorporated into the shot and can create excellent results.

Benefits of Laser Removal:

  • • Fast Treatment.
  • • Save money in the long run.
  • • Save time.
  • • Avoid Ingrown hairs and eliminate unwanted pigmentation.

Who can get Laser Hair Removal and how should it be applied?

Laser Hair Removal is available for all skin types; In addition, it is unisex (equally effective for men and women). It only works on hair with dark hair due to melanin. Depending on the type of skin, one type or another kind of laser is used, either Alexandrite Laser or Diode Laser.

The Alexandrite Laser has a longer wavelength, so it does not penetrate the skin so deeply, this makes it ideal for darker skin. On the other hand, none of the methods for laser hair removal are effective on very dark skins, so it is not recommended to apply the treatment since it will not have the desired effect. This type of sessions should always be applied by a professional; generally doctors, since a bad or incorrect manipulation or ignorance can cause burns, blisters and other skin problems.

Also, it should not be applied on skin with melanomas, moles, or skin that has been tanned; either naturally or artificially. Until now, pain was one of the determining factors when doing this type of hair removal, but thanks to anesthetic creams, the pain goes unnoticed and at times, nothing is felt during the sessions.

Before you start your session:

  • • Shaving within 12 hours before treatment will eliminate the necessary amount of additional growth to prevent hair from singeing during treatment; Unlike waxing, we do not need to see the hair on the surface to eliminate it effectively.
  • • Under no circumstances should it be exposed to direct sunlight, false tanning or a solarium. Apply sunscreen liberally (regardless of your activities planned for the day) and keep your skin completely hydrated.
  • • Do not wax or start waxing for up to four weeks before your appointment. You can shave, but when using any other hair removal technique, the effectiveness of the treatment is risked.
  • • Before going to your laser hair removal treatment, make sure your skin is free of cosmetics, beauty products, lotions, deodorant and creams.
  • • Think carefully about what you intend to take to your appointment. Opt for loose clothing that allows you to comfortably expose the site of the skin so that it is easier to treat. Also, consider what will provide optimal comfort and minimal irritation after the session.
  • • If you are taking any medication and you plan on having a laser treatment, you must notify us before starting the procedure to avoid possible and unwanted consequences.

After your session:

  • • It is important that you do not pick or comb the treated area. Doing so will interrupt the treatment process and will lead to possible stimulation of the hair follicle, in other words, it could cause new hair growth.
  • • Once the redness disappears, exfoliate about one or two weeks after your laser hair removal appointment. Avoid extremely hot showers or baths for at least 48 hours after the treatment.
  • • If discoloration / pigmentation occurs in the affected area, apply vitamin E serum to stimulate the smoothness of the skin.
  • • Avoid direct sunlight for at least two to four weeks after treatment.
  • • If you have undergone laser hair removal in the facial area, you can apply mineral makeup within the first 48 hours, but other cosmetics should be avoided until the skin heals.
  • • Keep away from deodorants for at least three days to avoid irritation.
  • • While it is not uncommon to experience itching, it is important not to scratch the affected area. Scratching or causing the appearance of a scab can cause scarring.
  • • Give your body 24-48 hours to rest from excessive exercise, gym or sauna; all this can cause irritation to the treated areas.
